Relief Art Reimagined
Compositions that elevate intricate effects in the space between 2 D and 3 D
Creating with materials and textures that are arranged and aligned with almost surgical patience
Each work of art sits on the edge where ritual becomes repetition that results in revelation
This sculptural relief explores the relationship between organic form, color, texture, and light. Set against a richly layered field of greens, from luminous chartreuse and moss to deeper olive tones, the composition creates the feeling of an evolving natural landscape. Hand-caved biophillic elements, reminiscent of seed pods, flowers, and other botanical forms, emerge from the surface in small clusters, creating rhythm and movement across the piece. The incorporation of biophilic elements brings an organic, tactile quality to the work, blurring the boundary between natural objects and artistic interpretation. Each raised form catches light differently, producing subtle shadows and highlights that continually shift as the viewer moves around the piece. The restrained palette of greens is punctuated by earthy browns, charcoal, and touches of warm yellow, allowing the sculptural elements to appear as if they are growing from the surface. Enclosed within a black shadowbox, the work becomes a contemporary botanical study combining the intimacy of nature with the sophistication of sculptural wall art. The result is a piece that invites close observation and reveals new textures, forms, and relationships with every viewing. 28x22x3" Available
This sculptural relief explores the quiet tension between organic form, texture, and color. Set against natural linen, a collection of biophilla elements and irregular iron fragments are arranged in an intentionally scattered composition, creating a sense of movement and discovery. Each form reveals its own combination of earthy browns, warm amber and rust tones, and unexpected flashes of cobalt blue, teal, and red. The dimensional elements set in a relief technique, allow light to create subtle shadows that shift throughout the day and further emphasize the individuality of each form. The contrast between the organic shapes and the restrained linen ground creates a visual balance between rawness and refinement. Enclosed within a custom plexiglass shadowbox, the work becomes an intimate specimen-like study inviting the viewer to look closely at the textures, cavities, color variations, and shadows. The transparent enclosure preserves the sculptural depth while giving the piece a refined, contemporary presentation. 24x18x3" framed in plexiglass shadowbox. Available
This sculptural relief, "Hidden Treasures", explores the beauty found in unexpected places. Against an intensely black ground, dozens of hand-carves, biophillic vessels emerge in an organic, cascading arrangement. Their irregular forms reveal subtle variations of black, charcoal, while carefully placed touches of gold leaf catch the light and create moments of luminosity. The deep black background allows the sculptural elements and gold accents to become the focal point, creating a dramatic interplay between shadow, texture, depth, and light. The composition gradually narrows as it moves downward, suggesting movement, discovery, or treasures drifting through space. Each individual form is unique, inviting the viewer to look closely and discover the details within the larger composition. Presented in a black shadowbox, the work has a refined, contemporary presence while retaining the raw, organic quality of its handmade elements. The contrast between the velvety black surface and the luminous gold creates an elegant, almost jewel-like effect—turning small, seemingly ordinary forms into hidden treasures revealed through light and perspective. 28x22x3" black shadowbox frame. Available
This collection of biophilia relief works explores the meeting point between the natural world and human perception. Each piece incorporates organic forms of seed pods, botanical fragments, butterflies, and found elements. They are then reimagined through texture, color, layering, and dimensional relief. The works invite viewers to look closely at the intricate structures found in nature while experiencing them in an unexpected, contemporary form. Rich surfaces and carefully arranged elements create rhythm and movement, while shadows and changing light activate the reliefs throughout the day. The contrast between organic materials and precise compositional structures reflects my interest in the relationship between nature and science, intuition and order, growth and transformation. Rather than simply representing nature, these works seek to evoke the feeling of being immersed in it. This is where small fragments become landscapes, repetition becomes rhythm, and familiar natural forms are transformed into something newly perceived.

"Where the Meadow Breathes" is an immersive celebration of nature’s abundance, translated into a vibrant three-dimensional field of color, texture, and movement. Hundreds of individually hand cut flowers come together in a lively tapestry of reds, corals, blues, violets, greens, and whites, evoking the spontaneous beauty of a meadow in full bloom. Layered petals extend from the surface, creating subtle relief and shifting shadows as light moves across the work. The flowers vary in size, color, and orientation, allowing the composition to feel organic rather than repetitive, much like the unpredictable rhythms of a natural landscape. The work explores growth, interconnectedness, and renewal. Each individual bloom becomes part of a larger ecosystem, suggesting how seemingly small elements can collectively create something abundant and alive. "Where the Meadow Breathes" invites the viewer to pause and experience the restorative quality of nature—a moment where color, texture, and form seem to breathe together. 60"x 40"x4.5
"Where the Meadow Breathes"
Close up of "Where the Meadow Breathes" custom marbled paper, cut in to thousands of petals and assembled into flowers. Inspired by the rare phenomena of the "super bloom" that sometimes occurs during California's spring time season.
"Audrey’s Meadow" is a joyful exploration of abundance, color, and the quiet wonder found in nature. Hundreds of individually hand cut flowers come together in a richly layered field, creating the impression of a meadow captured at the height of bloom. Vivid greens, blues, reds, coral, orange, lavender, and white intermingle across the surface, while the varied shapes, sizes, and elevations of the flowers create a sense of organic movement. Each bloom is distinct, yet together they form a unified landscape, an expression of how individual elements can coexist to create something greater than themselves. The dimensional flowers extend from the surface, casting delicate shadows that change with the movement of light. This interplay of color, texture, light, and relief gives the work a sense of vitality, inviting the viewer to look closely and discover new relationships within the composition. Named Audrey’s Meadow, the piece carries a sense of warmth and personal connection. It evokes a place imagined as both lush and intimate, a meadow filled with color, possibility, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by beauty. 40"x60"x4.5"

I custom marbled paper that allows colors to overlap and blend creating a variety of gradations and textures. This adds visual interest, surprise combinations and uniqueness.
"Suspended Transformation" explores the fleeting moment between stillness and movement. Across three panels, hundreds of dimensional butterflies appear to rise, drift, and disperse through space, creating the sensation of a transformation caught in suspension. Layered in a spectrum of lavender, violet, deep purple, and subtle silver metallic accents, the butterflies vary in scale, orientation, and density. Their dimensional placement creates shifting shadows and an ever-changing interplay of light, giving the work a sense of movement even while it remains physically still. The triptych invites contemplation of change, emergence, and the beauty of transition—a visual metaphor for moments when we are no longer who we were, yet have not quite become who we will be. The result is an ethereal sculptural work that transforms with its surroundings and with the viewer's perspective. Each panel is 24x48x 4"

I created "Breath of Rain: Where And Water Meet in Renewal" in response to a call or entry "Ecotones : Thresholds of Water". This work inhabits the space where air interfaces with water, where rain descends to the earth, sometimes gently, sometimes violently. It momentarily cleanses, washing away dust and pollutants. It is in these thresholds, these subtle ecotones, that transformation unfolds. Sold
"Breath of Rain" is a sculptural relief inspired by the movement, rhythm, and quiet beauty of rainfall. Custom marbled paper is hand-cut into hundreds of individual layered droplets. Suspended in space, they create a sense of falling water captured in a fleeting moment. Shades of blue, aqua, teal, and soft green flow throughout the composition, suggesting the changing colors of water, sky, and landscape. Set within a blue-rimmed plexiglass shadowbox, the dimensional elements appear to float between the viewer and the surface. Light passes through and reflects across the translucent forms, creating shifting shadows and subtle variations in color. The work invites contemplation of nature’s cycles and the restorative quality of rain, an abstract moment where movement, light, and water converge.
"The Beauty of Becoming" uses a relief technique inspired by the Kinstugi art which embraces imperfection, fracture, and transformation. Eggshell fragments are individually painted and finished with luminous gold accents, transforming a delicate, discarded material into something unexpectedly vibrant and enduring. The eggshells move organically through a spectrum of greens, magentas, reds, and blues, creating a sense of flow and continual transformation. Each fragment retains its individuality while contributing to a larger visual narrative. The gold-edged accents become an essential part of the composition, celebrating the breaks, imperfections, and experiences that contribute to becoming whole. The work invites the viewer to consider resilience not as a return to an original state, but as the creation of something new, distinctive, and more beautiful because of what it has endured.
"Echoes of Resilience" 25" x 37"x 3" I am inspired by the Japanese art of Kinstugi, where broken porcelain is mended by 24 carat gold. This art is emblematic of the ideology of what was once broken can be made better. Painted individually, each eggshell suggests fragility, vulnerability and potential for new beginnings or growth. The jagged eggshell rims symbolize life’s challenges, moments of stress, or sacrifices. Each colorfully painted eggshell, with 18 ct. gold detailing, speaks to the creativity, resilience, and strength to put forth one’s best efforts. Sold
This collection of sculptural eggshell reliefs explores transformation, imperfection, and the beauty of repair through the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi. Fragile eggshells, symbols of beginnings, vulnerability, and renewal, are transformed into richly colored, dimensional forms and arranged in rhythmic compositions. Each shell is individually hand-painted and preserved, allowing its natural contours, fractures, and irregularities to remain visible. Metallic accents trace and illuminate the edges, echoing the spirit of kintsugi: rather than concealing imperfection, the places where an object is broken or altered become part of its beauty and history. The repeated forms create a visual language of rhythm, color, and connection. Some compositions suggest the order of a grid, while others move organically across the surface, inviting associations with cellular structures, botanical growth, or constellations. Set within deep shadowboxes, the shells project from the surface, creating changing shadows and a sense of movement as light shifts throughout the day. By elevating an extraordinarily fragile and familiar material into contemporary sculptural relief, the work invites reflection on resilience, renewal, and the unexpected beauty found in things that are imperfect

"Echoes of Resilience"
"The Golden Egg" is a sculptural wall relief transforms humble eggshells into a vibrant meditation on color, imperfection, and transformation. Each eggshell is individually painted and finished in a kintsugi-inspired fashion, with luminous gold accents tracing its natural cracks and irregularities. Arranged in a rhythmic grid, the delicate shells become individual vessels of color—each one distinct, yet contributing to the harmony of the whole. The composition celebrates the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, in which breakage and imperfection are not concealed but honored as part of an object's history and beauty. The dimensional placement of the eggshells creates subtle shadows and changing reflections, inviting the viewer to experience the work differently as light and perspective shift. What begins as a fragile, discarded material is transformed into a contemporary exploration of resilience, beauty, and renewal.
Chroma is a sculptural relief that transforms fragile eggshells into a study of color, light, and resilience. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, the work embraces imperfection and celebrates the beauty found in fracture, repair, and transformation. Each eggshell element is individually shaped, painted and detailed, then carefully positioned to create a rhythmic progression of hues, from vibrant reds and oranges through luminous greens and blues to deep indigos and violet. Raised from the surface, the eggshell forms create dimensionality through subtle shadows and changing reflections, inviting the viewer to experience the work from different perspectives. The delicate nature of the eggshell contrasts with its bold color, suggesting that fragility and strength can coexist. Through its ordered yet organic composition, Chroma reflects the continual process of transformation, where broken or discarded materials can be reimagined into something unexpected, cohesive, and beautiful.
"Chroma"
Silver Linings is a sculptural relief that transforms delicate eggshells into an exploration of fragility, resilience, and renewal. Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which honors broken objects by emphasizing rather than concealing their imperfections, the work celebrates the beauty that can emerge through transformation. Individual eggshell forms are carefully shaped, painted, and arranged across the surface in a rhythmic progression of blues, from luminous turquoise and cobalt to deep indigo, punctuated by shimmering silver elements. Each form carries its own markings, variations, and subtle imperfections, making every component unique. The raised eggshells create a dynamic interplay of light, shadow, color, and texture. As light moves across the surface, the forms appear to shift and change, revealing dimensional details that invite closer observation. The title "Silver Linings" speaks to the work's central idea: that moments of fragility or fracture can reveal unexpected beauty. By transforming an inherently delicate eggshells into a refined sculptural composition, the piece suggests that imperfection is not something to hide, but something that can become an integral part of the beauty of the whole.

"Dipping in the Tide Pools" is an exploration of the vibrant, ever-changing world revealed along the shoreline. Inspired by the experience of looking closely into a tide pool, the work brings together an array of organic, pebble-like forms in luminous shades of emerald, turquoise, cobalt, sea green, and yellow. Each individual form is hand-finished with its own marbled patterns, subtle translucency, and delicate touches of gold, recalling the way sunlight catches water, shells, and mineral surfaces beneath the water. The dimensional pieces are arranged across the surface like fragments discovered while exploring the edge of the ocean. Their varying shapes, depths, and shadows create a sense of movement and discovery, encouraging the viewer to look closer and imagine what might be found beneath the surface. The work celebrates the biophilic connection between art and the natural world, transforming the fleeting beauty of a tidepool into a contemporary sculptural composition. The interplay of color, texture, light, and shadow evokes that moment of wonder when you dip your hand into the water and discover a small world hidden just below the surface
"Tide Pools" offers an intimate look at the intricate beauty of organic forms. Hand-finished dimensional pieces reveal swirling layers of vibrant greens, blues, and turquoise, accented with delicate touches of gold. Rich texture, subtle shadows, and shifting color invite the viewer to slow down and discover the details within each individual form.
“Where Serenity Lingers”, harkens back the artist’s experience with the rare “super bloom” phenomena that periodically takes place in the California springtime. The overwhelmingly sense of serenity the artist experienced when viewing and walking the vast super blooming acreage lingers in her and is expressed in her work. In this piece, 4320 sq inches of custom marbled paper was cut into 1650 petals and made into ~350 flowers. The flowers are mounted in a relief format to mimic the blooms rising and undulating above dessert floor. 40"x30"x3" SOLD
“Where Serenity Lingers”, Some flowers are detailed with color coordinating rhinestones to glimmer in the light to catch the viewers eye inviting them to linger and hopefully bring about the feeling of serenity. 40"x30"x3" SOLD
"Interwoven Realms" explores the delicate relationship between the natural world and the unseen structures that connect us. Layers of intricately cut organic forms weave across the surface, creating a rhythmic network of branches, leaves, and openings. Beneath this lattice, vivid turquoise, green, ochre, and burnt orange emerge and recede, suggesting a landscape in constant movement and transformation. The overlapping layers create a sense of depth and dimensionality, inviting the viewer to look beyond the surface and discover what exists within and beneath it. The contrast between the cool blues and greens and the warmer earthy tones evokes the meeting of water, vegetation, earth, and light. The work reflects Christine’s interest in biophilic forms, interconnected systems, and the visual dialogue between structure and organic growth. Like ecosystems themselves, no element exists in isolation; each form overlaps, supports, and transforms the next. Interwoven Realms becomes a meditation on connection—between nature and human experience, surface and depth, and the visible and unseen worlds. "Interwoven Realms" is composed of multilayers of intricately cut custom marbled Tyvek paper. 12"x12"
